The latest issue of Fortune News, one of The Fortune Society's earliest organizing tools, is available!
Back in 1967, the newsletter was little more than a one-page mimeographed flyer – edited by our founder, David Rothenberg – that kept subscribers up-to-date on Fortune’s activities. Over the years, the News has grown into a forum for formerly incarcerated individuals and advocates to discuss personal experiences within the criminal justice system and map out strategies for reform. Fortune News remains one of our primary outreach tools and has grown into an international publication, produced three times a year, with a circulation of 12,000.
As of October 2009, Fortune is excited to announce the official re-launch of Fortune News, which now boasts an updated design and several brand new features. Each issue will include "Justice Beat", a brief of relevant research in the field intended to educate both our incarcerated and non-incarcerated readers; "Lentes Latinos" ("Latin Lens"), a Spanish-language column about criminal justice issues faced by the Hispanic community; "New & Noteworthy Prison Programs", a feature that highlights programs around the nation that are doing good work; "Center Stage", a selection of poetry, prose, short fiction, comics, drawings, and other creative works from incarcerated or formerly incarcerated individuals; "Family Matters", a feature in which Fortune's family law expert will answer one reader's question, and so much more.
